The Oscars are turning 90! Data wizards, put on your thinking hats and predict which movie will win the title for the Best Picture this year.

Sparklore brings you an opportunity to showcase your data modelling skills. Register and receive the historical data set of all Oscar winners and nominees. Analyze this data to determine the pattern of past winners. Apply your data analytics and data modelling skills to predict if your favorite movie is going to be the Best Motion Picture at this year’s Academy Awards.

Submission

Submissions for the contest can be made by emailing your model and results to contest@sparklore.com before 3rd March 2018.

Evaluation

All entries submitted before the deadline will be judged based on the accuracy of prediction and the data model used.

All entries need to be supported with a synopsis and data model along with the final prediction results.

All deadlines are at 11:59 PM IST on the corresponding day unless otherwise noted. The competition organizers reserve the right to update the contest timeline if they deem it necessary.

Competition Reward

  • Winner: Rs. 5,000/-

Competition Guidelines

  • Only one entry per person will be accepted. Entries from users with multiple accounts will not be allowed to participate
  • The contest is open to individuals as well as teams.

Tools

  • Contestants are free to use any statistical tool required to create the model if they have legal access to the tool.

Submission

  • Privately sharing code or data outside of teams is not permitted. It's okay to share code if made available to all participants on the forums.
  • Your final submission must include the code of your model along with the results. A synopsis of your process and model is required for evaluation/
  • Contestants are permitted to share their code or model publicly as long as it does not violate the intellectual property rights of any third party.
  • No entries will be accepted after the competition deadline.
  • Under no circumstances does an entry, winner or awarding of a prize indicate an offer of employment. Participants must acknowledge that they have submitted their entries voluntarily.

Sparklore holds the right to disqualify any contestant from participating in the competition if they are found indulgent in unfair practices.

Evaluation

Winners will be selected not only based on results but how they arrive at it. Therefore, it is important for contestants to provide the code and synopsis of their entries for the judges to determine a fair winner.
